a photoblog: California and beyond

I enjoy taking photos and sharing them broadly. Hence, this photoblog. My "style" is somewhat naive, in that I prefer simple composition and design.
About Me
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost. ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
God wishes to see people happy. ~ Anne Frank
...mystery is a great embarrassment to the modern mind. ~ Flannery O'Connor
When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence. ~Ansel Adams
"You can either practice being right or practice being kind." ~Anne Lamott
I just want to be good. ~"Alex" in A Clockwork Orange
My name is Roland Allen. I'm a California with a couple of cameras and a few thoughts. I live in Orange County, which is in southern California, half way in between Los Angeles and San Diego.
I take pictures and hug trees. I like holidays. I like having rocking chairs on my front porch. I like visiting friends in Seattle. I like people who act nice and play well with others. I also like strong coffee and food with lots of garlic.
I’ve spent my life in “the Academy” - having been a college and university admissions officer at Westmont College, Colby College, MIT and Stanford University.
I’ve “crossed sides of the desk” and currently hold an appointment as director of college counseling at St. Margaret’s Episcopal School in San Juan Capistrano, CA.
